Your mention of bees brought to mind a problem that I have encountered in Western N. Carolina. We have these small bees that seek out small diameter holes about 1/8" to 1/4" and build mud-filled larval chambers. Within a day, they can close off virtually any small orifice they encounter, and they are constantly searching.
Any open tube end, bolt hole, etc. is a target.
